A new year is upon us and as time passes, we continue our efforts to rebuild our land, our confidence and our spirits. Americans know that we will recover, yet the tragedy of 9-11 has left many ripples that affect so many areas of our lives it sometimes feels as if the devastation will never end. Americans have begun to slowly restart their lives but the terrorist acts have affected black businesses. The fallout of terrorism and its impact on African American business is explored in the article, “Black Tech Firms Survive September 11th.”
Since 9-11, so many people have expressed the need to spend their lives doing things that really matter to them, things that they really love, a lot of times this means a job change or even a completely different profession. Downward trends in the economy, lay offs and the phasing out of jobs or the closing of entire companies has led to more people looking for work. ”Cyber-Sleuthing Boost Online Job Hunting” tells how the internet has become a important source of employment information as more Americans, whether by choice or force, are looking for opportunities on the net.
One of our favorite times of year is upon us. Black History Month, celebrated during the month of February, always inspires and educates us. We have tried to give you information on events and sites that you will find inspiring and informative as well. Just as the print and broadcast media introduced past generations to great African Americans, the Internet, our newest frontier, has the power and potential to guide and influence us in ways our forefathers could only have imagined. We are a race of people with a profound past and preeminent present. There is a wealth of information yet to learn about our history and a vast area of space in which to create history. A formidable, flourishing future can be yours with a simple click of a mouse!
